"Boyfriend" is the latest in a string of great songs from Bethany Cosentino's noise-pop project Best Coast. As far as what you'd call the "Best Coast sound," everything's in place here: Cosentino's gold-plated voice melds around her lyrics, turning simple sentiments into dollar words, and there's enough reverb to sink California once and for all (or, at least, give it a hell of a shake). That sun-kissed sound is here to stay, and at this point she wears it like a good pair of shades - the scrubbed-up production values are a good thing.
